This Song is a monthly feature of So Much Stuff, offering a snippet of association to who and where I was when it was a popular release or otherwise entered my radar.
Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of those albums I listened to repeatedly, the stereo turned down low for a kind of privacy, as I lay on the couch in my parents’ living room—where I happen to be sitting right now, though the furniture in that room has been long since rearranged. Like the lyrics say, Here I am.
Covers can range from dull to infuriating, and nothing will ever match the particular mood of sadness and adolescent angst that found relief in the original Simon & Garfunkel version. But I do love PigPen Theater Company’s cover of “The Only Living Boy in New York,” and their obvious joy in playing and singing it. Special thanks to the old friend who sent me the link.
Wow wow wow! Such soul and joy. Lovely! Thank you Sue Mell!!
Oh, wow. Hadn't heard this cover! Thank you. And, "turned down low for a kind of privacy" makes so much sense to me.
